Autumn in New York

In 2023, I spent a dreamy weekend in New York City attending a floral design workshop that left me feeling inspired, refreshed, and more connected than ever to my craft. The experience began in the heart of Manhattan’s Chelsea Flower District, where I wandered through rows of flower markets bursting with color and scent — a paradise for any florist. Buckets of garden roses, delicate ranunculus, and the season’s best foliage lined the sidewalks, each bloom a tiny work of art waiting to be chosen.

After gathering our materials, we made our way across the bridge to the Brooklyn Boathouse, where the workshop was held. The space itself was breathtaking — filled with natural light, rustic wood beams, and a gentle breeze off the water. It was the perfect setting for a hands-on flower arranging class in New York, surrounded by fellow designers and creative souls.

Our instructor guided us through creating lush, garden-inspired arrangements using seasonal and locally sourced flowers. We explored color theory, balance, and sustainable design methods that emphasized movement and texture. Each composition felt like a living painting, capturing the rhythm of the city and the calm of the waterfront all at once.

What made the day so special was the sense of community — connecting with other floral designers in New York, sharing stories, techniques, and plenty of laughter as the sun set over the river.

If you’ve ever dreamed of taking a floral design workshop in NYC, I can’t recommend it enough. Between the charm of the Chelsea Flower District and the beauty of the Brooklyn Boathouse, it’s an experience that truly celebrates the art and magic of flowers in the city that never sleeps.
